FULL JOB DESCRIPTION
Purpose
The Shipping Coordinator keeps LCP’s shipping activity moving without disrupting production. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling outbound traffic activities and facilitating timely and accurate delivery of our products to customers, while also maintaining the highest standards of quality control prior to shipment. The Shipping Coordinator is LCP’s presence on the ground during loading — responsible for knowing where product is stored, working with the crane operator to get trucks loaded in an orderly sequence, keeping third-party trucks staged and clear of production, holding those drivers to LCP’s site rules, and making sure every load leaves secured and correct. The Shipping Coordinator must be a hard-working, responsible, detail-oriented individual who is dedicated to promoting a culture of safety. The Shipping Coordinator is assigned to a loading area and is responsible for the activity in that area, including directing and staging third-party trucks.
Roles & Responsibilities
Know where each job’s product is stored on the yard and direct loading accordingly.
Work with the crane operator to get trucks loaded safely, in sequence, and without congestion or unnecessary wait time.
Stage third-party trucks in the assigned loading area and keep them clear of production areas, cranes, Tuckers, and internal travel routes.
Direct third-party truck traffic so trucks arrive, load, and depart following LCP’s established routes and cycles.
Keep third-party drivers on schedule as Marex staggers arrivals and departures, and report delays, no-shows, or capacity problems to the Logistics Manager.
Enforce LCP site rules, safety requirements, and traffic restrictions with all third-party drivers, and escalate repeat non-compliance to the Logistics Manager.
Ensure all loads are properly bound and secured before leaving the yard.
Conduct quality control inspections of products prior to shipment to ensure they meet company standards and customer requirements.
Document and report any quality issues or discrepancies identified during the inspection process.
Prepare shipping documentation, including bills of lading, shipping labels, and other paperwork as required.
Maintain accurate records of shipments, inventory levels, dunnage slabs, slings, and other lifting equipment.
Coordinate riggers and patch crew and make sure they have the necessary items for their workday, including but not limited to saws and fuel, torch rigs and fire extinguishers, patch material, and tools.
Coordinate and submit daily JSAs for riggers and crane operators.
Coordinate equipment inspections for cranes.
Support the yard foreman by moving materials and helping to shift personnel around the yard as needed.
Work closely with the production, operations, and logistics teams so that shipping activity does not interrupt or slow production.
Communicate proactively with the Logistics Manager about yard conditions, truck volume, or loading issues that could affect production or delivery commitments.
Maintain strict material handling practices in accordance with best business practices.
Identify opportunities for process improvement and raise them to the Logistics
The ideal candidate for the Shipping Coordinator position will possess the following experience and qualifications:
Previous experience in shipping coordination and quality control within a preferred manufacturing or distribution environment.
Ability and willingness to operate equipment when necessary and prioritized by supervisor.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to hold third-party drivers and outside personnel to LCP’s site rules and safety requirements in a firm, consistent, and professional manner.
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to identify issues, decide on required actions, and prioritize solutions.
Demonstrate a general working knowledge of heavy equipment and/or industrial operations.
Working knowledge of load securement, rigging, and safe loading practices, or willingness to be trained.
Possess excellent collaboration and communication skills. Participate and collaborate as a Team Member at Supervisory Level 10s.
